Dorcas Hayman entered into life on March 28, 1935 in Barbados, West Indies, the daughter of Enid Williams and Louis Williams. She later came to the United States as a teenager and lived in Brooklyn, New York, where she met and married Tedswell Hayman on May 17, 1964. Her family then moved to Queens, New York where they resided for many years. Dorcas attended Hunter College where she earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Psychology. She taught early education and then went on to have an inspiring career for over twenty years working at the Administration for Children Services as a social worker.
She had a passion for education, children, and helping others, often donating to charities and organizations that supported these causes. Dorcas enjoyed reading, word-find puzzles, and spending time with family. She also loved the Lord and enjoyed singing hymns. Her home was open to everyone and she was a very generous, kindhearted soul. She was loved by many and will be remembered as someone who cared deeply for everybody around her.
Dorcas is preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Enid Williams; her brother, John Williams; her sister, Thelma Williams; her husband, Tedswell Hayman; and her daughter, Teresa Hayman. Left to cherish precious memories of her love: son Terence Hayman (Kimberly Hayman); grandchildren Kayla Hayman and Kelly Hayman; sisters Maraline Cox and Elaine Moor; nieces Stephanie Cox and Tanya Moor; nephew Ronald Moor; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
