Irene Burns Harris, age 96, formerly of Long Beach, NY passed away peacefully on November 14, 2024, in Tarzana, California. Born on October 22, 1928, Irene was a cherished figure in her community and an influential presence in the world of journalism.
Irene's career was marked by her tenure as the Editor and Publisher of the Nassau Star newspaper in Long Beach, where she had the honor of meeting multiple Presidents of the United States. Her professional life was distinguished by a commitment to integrity and a passion for uncovering and presenting the truth. In retirement, Irene continued to contribute to the community where she volunteered for Project Angel Food of Los Angeles.
A political enthusiast, avid bridge player, and self-proclaimed news junkie, Irene also had a profound love for traveling the world. These hobbies reflected her vibrant and inquisitive spirit and kept her engaged with a broad community of friends and acquaintances.
Family was the cornerstone of Irene's life. She is survived by her loving husband, Mayo; children Alan and Paula Harris, Philip and Maureen Harris; grandchildren Jason and Stephanie Harris, Morgan, Emerson, great-grandchildren Mallory and Molly; and her sister, Jackie Roberts. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gertrude and David Burns.
Irene's legacy is not only in the memories she leaves with her family but also in the significant impact she made through her career and community involvement. She will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose life was full of love and dedication to those around her. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
