Stanley V. Graaf, Sr. (also known as DeGraaf) was born on February 7, 1934, in
Aruba. In his preteens he moved to St. Vincent to visit his Father (Vincent) for a short
time where he attended boarding school and back to Aruba at his mother Jane’s
request. As a young adult in the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s while in Aruba, he mastered
many skills from Trade Schools. He was the “Jack of All Trades”. Stanley knew the
saying after that was “Master of None” but in his vocabulary he would say “Master of
most Trades”. Most of his friends always came to him to get advice and suggestions
on how to go about building something. He loved being in sport competitions where he
always took the lead, throwing Parties, music from around the world, especially Salsa,
Meringue, Calypso and Zouk from St. Maarten; and loved the comfort of knowing you
had fun at his place.
In 1957 he married his long-time sweetheart Mildred F. Graaf in Aruba when he was in
his early twenties. He worked at Lago Oil Transport Co., as a Wing Man and Fueler of
Jet Planes in the 60’s, then moved to New York for a better life with his family.
In New York, he pursued several careers at the following companies: Brooklyn Navy
Yard in the 70’s, and Gruman in Bethpage as an Aerospace Technician in the 80’s
where he retired in his mid-50’s and did what He loved best. He traveled, entertained,
and enjoyed
with his wife, family, kids, grandkids & friends.
